Welcome to the Save Energy and Water Project

Washing your dishes with a dishwasher can allow you to save energy and water compared to hand dish-washing. But did you know that you can save even more energy and water by choosing the appropriate wash cycle?

How to Save Energy and Water when using your Dishwasher

Did you know that by using 50°C or 55°C programs or Automatic programs instead of high temperature programs when running your dishwasher you can save*:

…up to 84 kWh of electricity in one year? That's about 80 extra cycles or over 3 months worth of dishwashing for free!

…up to 1,497 litres of water in one year? It represents the amount of water you may use for about 43 showers or 19 baths, at moderate use rates.

* based on the maximum likely saving which can be achieved, identified from a sample of machines recently on the market in Europe and data on average European machine usage patterns.

Why 50°C or 55°C?

High temperatures are not usually necessary for a clean wash. When the load is not unusually dirty you can choose 50°C or 55°C and still achieve great results.

Why Automatic Programs?

Many of the dishwashers on the market today have an Automatic program that can automatically optimize itself for the load inside the machine, using the appropriate quantity of water and energy for each case.

Modern automatic dishwashing detergents work well in 50°C, 55°C and Automatic programs, when used as directed, so you get the cleaning you want while using less energy and water, in most circumstances.

So try seting your dishwasher on 50°C, 55°C or Automatic programs and make a habit of it. By simply using these programs you can do your bit for the environment by saving energy and water, whilst still getting great cleaning results in most circumstances.

More tips for Saving Energy and Water

  • Load dishes according to the dishwashing machine manufacturer's instructions to optimize washing performance
  • Check and clean drains and filters regularly to ensure efficient operation
  • Try to operate the dishwasher with a full load and use the appropriate energy and water saving programs that match your load
  • Take a few minutes to check in the machine user's guide for the most efficient program according to the size and type of load in your dishwasher.

More about the Save Energy and Water project

  • "Save Energy and Water" is a voluntary industry initiative to encourage consumers to get the most out of their dishwashers for less impact on the environment.
  • The initiative was developed through the A.I.S.E., the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products in Europe (www.aise.eu).
